EUROPE
Project Oasis is a research study into the sustainability of digital native media organizations in more than 40 countries across Europe. To carry out the project, 34 researchers mapped and studied over 500 media outlets and produced an interactive directory.
With the support of our partners: European Journalism Centre (EJC), Google News Initiative (GNI), International Media Support (IMS), Media and Journalism Research Center (MJRC) and Global Forum for Media Development, in addition to the directory, the team produced a report featuring trends and insights into the sustainability, types of coverage, team formation, innovation, and press freedom across Europe. The executive summary of this report, as well as the country summaries, are available in over 30 languages.
The organisations in this study range in size, from small initiatives with volunteer-led teams, to large, multi-platform new ventures with more than €10 million in annual revenue. The goals of this project were to uncover new insights and trends in the independent digital media ecosystem and enhance the visibility of this growing market sector.
IBEROAMERICA
Since the launch of SembraMedia in 2015, our diverse team of ambassadors has carried out an extensive and continuous research project to map independent digital native media in Spanish in more than 20 countries in Latin America, the United States, Canada, and Spain.
The directory can be searched by more than 10 filters, including country, revenue sources, and content focus. It provides a valuable resource for media leaders, investors, academics, and others interested in understanding the trends, challenges, and opportunities for digital media in the region. This “living database,” which our team of ambassadors updates on an ongoing basis, now includes more than 1,000 media organizations.
Our ambassadors carefully review each media organization before including it in the directory, to ensure that it meets the criteria established by the SembraMedia team and Advisory Board. This rigorous review process also helps provide visibility for the media that are included in our directory.
